That happens when the config file doesn't actually load. This happened to me because duke3d.cfg was saved as DUKE3D.CFG. This is often how the file is named when you get it off of the atomic edition disc perhaps, or from GoodOldGames.

Rename the file to duke3d.cfg, all lowercase. I suggest overwriting the contents of the file with what's posted in the DingooWiki:

No that's not the problem.

I have duke files v.1.4 , lowercase cfg file copied from wiki and joyriders binaries.

Can you tell us what the last thing you see printed on the screen is before you see a black screen?

I know what was wrong now !!!
I damaged files on my fat partition by unsafe disconnecting it in windows.
Also it affected my entries in history file and scummvm emulator causing gfx smudges in games.
Now i'm using ubuntu in vmware player for partitioning and making changes in history file and everything is ok.

I was wondering if anyone remapped the controls, because the ones that come with the package kinda suck, and make this awesome port unplayable, many thanks in advanced, and thanks to all the developers for making dingux happen!
