This is big news.

My ? Is this: If the RAM can handle Linux and support the apps better than current firmware, will we see the abandonment of the current OS totally?

Godspeed

So if I don't want the radio or AV out, or say not just me, others beyond radio dependence :)

TV is for suckers but I have a 23" flatscreen for movies and TV Out, but use it only in winter months.

Radio? In the event of a disaster or severe weather.

Am I alone here?

Its in the very very early stages, theres no reason to think tvout and radio wont be supported. You just have to give it time, he's just now gotten the kernel booting and some basic quickly compiled apps running.

And there is even bigger potential with tv-out in linux. The native OS has only 320x240 resolution when displaying on TV. The chip can do native PAL and NTSC too and datasheet is available on Chrontel site including register programming info.
http://www.chrontel.com/PRODUCTS/7023.htm#datasheets
http://www.chrontel.com/pdf/7023-7024ad.pdf

CH7023/CH7024 TV Encoder
- Support for input resolutions up to 720x480 and 720x576 (e.g. 220x176, 320x240, 640x480, 720x480, 720x576, etc.)

So maybe we could have better video on tv-out.

EDIT:
Also from published code it looks like with some additional work it is possible to set LCD framebuffer to its native 240x320 orientation so we may avoid diagonal tearing in games and video playback.

Yay! Better TV out would be nice. I don't really mind anything extra, as long as it works for me, I don't really care about fancy stuff.

Except maybe for a cup holder, but that's getting ahead of myself...

I just dont see reason to lost time trying to add radio to our linux... Like Link, I dont use radio, most of dingoo users dont uses radio... But you never know, you can wake someday and say: "Oh my god, I NEED to listen to the radio"

I use radio ;-).

Also recording in higher quality from radio would be nice.
