Super Transball 2 for Dingoo Linux + other news

Postby zear on Fri Jun 26, 2009 2:29 pm

Hey guys, Super Transball 2 is my next port to Dingoo Linux.
It's an arcade game where you have to find a sphere and carry it to the surface, dodging many obstacles.

This is a rather early port, there are still few things to do.
The main problem is the sound. It's so loud, that it causes the screen to flicker every time the sound is played through the speakers ;P
Another thing is the key mapping. It works fine for in-game, but the menu controls still need to be properly mapped.
I'll have no time to play with Dingoo for at least next week, so don't expect it to be fixed by then.

Ok, now to the other news:
I still haven't traced the bug in the REminiscence, the one that caues the game to freeze on exit, and I also found out that there is no sound in the game. The game is playable already (if you like to play with no sound), so if someone wants to, I can realease it.
I also tried newraw (Another World), it's the same author's, and has exactly the same problems :D (and I can't pass the damn piracy protection screen, so I dunno if it is playable, but it freezes at quit).
I ported CloneKeen and gngb (gb/c emulator), both have the sound problems (gngb freezes when sound is enabled, and clone keen has no sound at all). So I won't be releasing them until I find out how to fix them.
I also ported Linball. Runs fine, but the sound is too loud, just like in Transball :P I'll realease it when I fix that problem.

Good news everyone, I managed to get the sound working in REminiscence, and it also fixed the freeze-on-quit error.
Still don't know what's wrong, but the sound works if I run some other game, where sound works fine, before I run REminiscence.
I remember something similiar was already mentioned in the Waternet port thread. Have to check if they found the cause there.
On other news, I also managed to port Powder. Just have to tweak the resolution (it's gba screen size) and button mappings.

just for your information super transball is a clone of the classic "thrust"...which has been ported to the gameboy advance (a bbc/acorn game)

super transball 2 doesn't appear to be working for me...

First I had to rename stransball2 to a shorter name because otherwise it wasn't recognized. Then, when I got it to run, it would just crash...any ideas?

I'm using the latest uclibc rootfs - duke3d, spout, scummvm, snes9x, and vifm work

New version of stransball2 released :)

Changelog:
Release #2 13/07/2009
* compiled with -msoft-float, possible speed improvements
* fully mapped menu controls
* partially fixed the "new level text being displayed on top of some other text" bug (still remains in some dialogs)

The download link on the dingoo archive still awaits for approval, but so far you can download it from this mirror.

Hi zear thanks for the update. Do you still plan to release Linball as the sound issue don't come from your code but the Kernel iteself (and it can be overpassed by volset) ?
Cheers
