anyone tested the 16:9 tv-out ?

Postby SiENcE on Sat May 09, 2009 12:35 am

hi,

today i tested the TV-out on a new Samsung - UE-46B6000.
I setup tv-out to 16:9 and switched too tv-mode. Then i watched a movie running on my dingoo. A 16:9 movie.
The Dingoo doesn't output 16:9 to the tv. :-(
It's always 4:3. (i'm using the pal setting).

does anyone can confirm this?

is the video encoded in 4:3? if so it would make sense that it doesn't stretch the image.

The menu is also 4:3. The whole output is the whole time 4:3. No change when switching from 4:3 -> 16:9.

The video is encoded dvd -> xvid (resolution 672x288).

Here is a video when trying the emulators. You can see, that there are black borders on the left&right. Of couse this are the emulators, but as i said before, it's always 4:3.

All in all the TV-out is ok on an 46" LCD. But i think the output resolution is only 320x200.

now ive tested games on the tv-out funtion and they definetly display in 16:9 (im on a 32 inch toshiba HDTV) . perhaps it has something to do with your tv settings? but i dont get any black bars playing games. ot it could be my tv that auto stretches 4:3 aspect to fit the native 16:9. im not sure. either way it gonna look ugly because its standard defintion without scaling.

I think your tv scales (auto stretches) 4:3 to 16:9, because i disabled this for standard.

Two things i want to know:
1. what is the real non scaled output resolution on tv (4:3, 16:9 pal, ntsc)
2. is 16:9 truely outputted
